Savvy sweet tooth satisfier

By Sari Huhtala

Before I evolved, birthdays and holidays meant an abundance of my homemade goodies – caramel corn, Smartie-covered cakes, fancy Yule logs, Nanaimo bars, and all the other stuff that inflammation is made of. Then I evolved to understand real health, and suddenly treats, like candies made solely out of dates, replaced the usual Christmas bon bons and sugar cookies.

Just a bit of a warning, though – once you evolve to eliminate refined sugars, dyes, white flour and all the stuff that sends your immune system into a quick descent and triggers inflammation, there is no going back. Anything not made of pure, wholesome ingredients will taste like a chemical cocktail, which is a good thing for those who are striving to carve a healthier path.

How to make the one-ingredient healthy candy?

Take one Medjool date in your hand (a regular, large date works too, but Medjool dates are easier to work with).

Remove the pit and roll the date around in your hand to soften and shape into a square.

That’s it.

You can then roll it in shredded coconut, or dust it lightly with cocoa, or raw cacao, or anything your sweet tooth desires.

Store covered in at room temperature or in fridge.
