Make your own breakfast cereal in minutes

By Sari Huhtala

Eating cereal for breakfast? Making your own is a cinch, it only takes a couple of minutes, and is so much healthier than the processed cereals on store shelves. Kids will love it too!

It’s mind boggling how many different types of cereals line the grocery store shelves and how insanely expensive they are. Not to mention, unhealthy. Here’s a simple solution. Make your own.

It’s easy. I tested it out on my grandson, and he gave it a thumbs up!

Here’s a recipe idea to start with. Add in other nuts or seeds, dried fruits or fresh fruits to please your palate.

Make a batch and store it in a jar for quick and easy access.

Homemade breakfast cereal (single serving)

  • About 3/4 cup rolled oats
  • A handful of raw sunflower seeds, chopped raw almonds, chopped raw walnuts
  • A handful of chopped dates, dried figs or other dried fruit

Toss ingredients in a bowl. Add chopped apple pieces, mix and drizzle with a little bit of raw honey, if desired. Eat the cereal with your favourite non-dairy milk. Unsweetened cashew milk is a tasty treat with cereal.
